OK, I'll say it. BBoards in AFS have their limitations, but mail
delivery via AFS is a good idea. You get location transparency and
authentication without having to mess with special-purpose servers to
provide that. The downside, of course, is that there are lots of
POP/Imap-style clients for things like PCs and Macs, and other mail
readers would mostly need to change to learn where to look for their new
messages. In short, AMDS is too much integrated with both the rest of
the ATK software and with AFS, and too little interfaceable with a
vanilla Unix system, to have gotten very far in most folks'
installations. It's a pleasant system to use if you're doing everything
from scratch, but almost nobody does that.
