No it isn't, Mark, at least not with those of us still on AFS 3.2, since if 
backup can't find the volume it wants in the place it thinks it ought to be, 
it is too dumb to try asking the vldb again, and just fails. I gather that 
this will happen in AFS 3.3, but I can't upgrade until a suitable vacation.

Interesting; it's not just *me* to whom these log files were less than 
obvious. I'm now about to ask a really dumb question. Given that everything 
else logs in /var/afs/logs, why couldn't backup/butc leave their log files 
there too? Then I wouldn't have had to appear dumb and ask this question.
