Thanks to everyone who replied that they have used AIX's "migratepv"
on AFS volumes without problems. I suspected that it was below the level of
AFS's disk handling, but wanted some assurances before blowing away the same
group of user home directories that have been lost "several times" in the last
month. (Due to undetected hardware problems in the SCSI and/or cable.)
Anyway, it worked, before any permanent data loss.
(And censoring messages is my favorite job. I get to read every
article coming into and going out of Lehigh. Sometimes I have to read the
naughty ones several times. And I keep archival copies of all the
alt.binaries.pictures.* postings on my wall for future reference. :)
Thanks again,
Steve
