DEC Alpha and AFS - Archive Modifications

Since the size of a long on the DEC Alpha is 64 bits, will AFS
on these machines allow for vice partitions greater then 2GB?
If it will, what about the 2GB file limit?

The Pittsburgh Supercomputer Center at one time had modifications
to AFS to allow for offline storage. I heard that Transarc was looking
at these. Is this true? and if so when.
