I didn't see a reply yet from Transarc on this.  My understanding through
talking with Transarc is that you can have >2gb partitions.  I
assume this also means you can have >2gb volumes.  You can have >2gb
files, although for 32bit machines, you still won't be able to serve them.  The
question that I'd like to know is if another ALPHA can read a >2gb file?

BTW, the reason >2gb partitions don't work on other platforms that support
native filesystems >2gb (like new Solaris and SGI) is that the salvager can't
handle them.  The code changes to make it happen are platform specific and not
complicated.
