AFS commands could at least try to give some reasonable return code. I
never understood why 'tokens' returns 19, independent of whether I have
0, 1 or more tokens. At least if the call succeeds and finds exactly
one valid token for the local cell you would expect it to return 0.
However, I complained about this 3 years ago and nothing changed. I
believe we are not going to see Transarc fix return codes within that
millennium. I guess the large sites who could spend their time in
programming to the C interface never cared, while the small sites who
wanted to use the commands in shell scripts didn't have enough power
and were not taken seriously. With a useable DFS coming real soon now,
whatever that means, it is probably too late for the small sites to
gather for a revolution.
Does anyone know whether DCE/DFS is a similar mess?
