We recently discovered that tar under HP-UX 9.03 (with a what string
of 72.14) is having trouble reading directories in AFS. This was
not a problem with HP-UX 9.01. The symptom is that created archive
files are extremely large, and contain files from the archived
directories many times (up to 14 times in one case). Both systems
are running AFS 3.3a.
I reported this problem to HP (reference E1760178), and they say that
as AFS is not a supported HP product, they do not recognise this
as a bug in tar. Can anyone suggest the next step? Getting rid of
HP-UX is not a practical suggestion. Neither is getting rid of AFS.
