We need to have our RW volumes on some kind of redundant hardware, to
maximize reliability and down time. RAID evaluation is under way, but
internally at Morgan, we have much more experience with Sun's ODS. We
have yet to attempt to put AFS filesystems on top of ODS.
Has anyone ever tried this?? Used it extensively?? I'm curious to
give it a try, and take advantage of the mirroring functionailty to
provide basic disk redundancy, but would like to hear success/failure
stories from those who have tread this path before.
The only obvious potential conflict would be fsck, as both AFS and ODS
provide an enhanced version of this utility. The ODS fsck, according
to the documentation, does not appear to be required for ODS, but
merely advisable, at Sun claims to have optimized parallel preening,
etc.
My concern is conflicts between the kernel modifications to the basic
filesystem code in the kernel (not my area of expertise). ODS is an
enhancement to the 4.2 filesystem, and AFS is implmented on top of
that, so in theory, there should be no problem.
