Hi,
We are experiencing problems with "famd" on SGI machines with NIS
running and AFS installed. I have an Indy (AFS client) with CDROM drive
attached. When I rebooted the machine after AFS was installed, "famd"
died as soon as I put in a CD in the drive. Objectserver also stopped
responding. I couldn't restart objectservers. I saw the following
messages in the SYSLOG.
Jan 31 14:11:25 1D:sgi31 famd: failed to set gid <Arg list too long>
Jan 31 14:11:26 4D:sgi31 inetd[227]: /usr/etc/fam: exit status 0x100
Jan 31 14:21:37 1D:sgi31 objectserver[710]: error initializing groups: Arg
list too long
I could restart both famd and objectserver only after stopping NIS. If I
disable NIS and reboot the machine, everything works fine. I can even
start NIS afterwards and no problems! These problems occur only when NIS
starts up at boot time.
I was wondering if anyone has seen this kind of thing before...
I would appreciate any help in resolving this issue.
Thanks!!!
