Recently, we changed the hostname of one of our Sparc 5 afs fileservers
(sun4m_53/afs 3.3a) as well as it's IP address. Before making this change,
we moved all the volumes elsewhere to other file servers. For testing
purposes, we left one test volume.
After making the associated hostname/ip changes and rebooting, we
ran the following command:
vos changeaddr -oldaddr <original IP> -newaddr <new IP>
The machine paniced and crashed. Anyone have any comments about this? Should
we have run "vos changeaddr ..." before changing the ip address? Did the
accompanying hostname change create problems?
On a related matter, I get the following error message from
the backup (afs 3.3) command unless I have a bogus entry for the old hostname
in my machine's /etc/hosts file that points to the new ip address:
backup: [bc_ParseVolumeSet] Can't get required info on host '.*.backup'
To get around this, I've got duplicate /etc/hosts entries for this machine
somewhat like the following:
new_ipaddress new_hostname
new_ipaddress old_hostname
Somehow, the old hostname has gotten incorporated into one of the databases
of our AFS cell. Running "vos listvldb -server old_hostname" indicates 0
entries for the old server while "vos listvol old_hostname" yields the
following:
Total number of volumes on server mothra.ac.duke.edu partition /vicepa: 0
Total volumes onLine 0 ; Total volumes offLine 0 ; Total busy 0
... (lines for /vicepb - /vicepd omitted here)
Total number of volumes on server mothra.ac.duke.edu partition /vicepe: 0
Total volumes onLine 0 ; Total volumes offLine 0 ; Total busy 0
"vos listvol" thinks that the old server is still around.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Sincerley,
Steven McElwee
