weekly bos restart

Is the weekly bos restart (at 4 am on sunday), which "reduces the 
potential for the core leaks that can develop as any process runs for an 
extended time", really necessary? Anybody have any experience with 
eliminating it? Maybe AFS 3.4 fixes the core leaks?
