No, it's not pointless.
Like every other business, IBM only survives by satisfying customer needs.
The only way it's going to happen is if you and every one else who wants
AFS on OS/2 asks their nearest IBMer thus demonstrating "customer demand".
If IBM doesn't listento its customers, it deserves to loose revenue!
