There's a story on IBM's web site about this. http://www-4.ibm.com/software/developer/library/os-afs.html?dwzone=opensource It contains a few pieces of interesting new information like: " IBM is legally bound, for example, to keep Dev (the encryption technology) closed, because the government will not allow this technology to be shipped out to certain countries. " It might have been an appropriate place to mention how much AFS has itself benefited from open-source tools and components, and that this is sort of closing the loop, but hey.
