Hi Stephen,
I believe what you want to do can be done with cvs admin.
The command
cvs admin -nrel-2_4-orig:rel-2_4
will result in the revisions tagged as rel-2_4 also being tagged as
rel-2_4.
So if branch rel-2_4 on file1 is revision 1.1.0.2 (shows up in cvs status
as
branch: 1.1.2), that same revision will have a second name rel-2_4-orig.
Essentially an alias.
I haven't found any other way to do this.
