Hello from Melbourne Australia,
Our new United Kingdom development group using WinCVS 1.0.6 is getting the login error 'Unknown host techssna' (that's the name of our Solaris server down here). We know they can access techssna via telnet and ping, so we're puzzled where the 'Unknown host' message is coming from.
I don't want to bother this group with our networking problems ... Here's my real question:
We know it's fine to use CVS on a LAN, as we do in our Melbourne office, but is it valid to try and access a CVS server across the Internet? I just want to check that we're not trying to do something conceptually wrong or impossible with CVS.
I'm not a networking person, but I was under the impression that there would be no distinction between using CVS over a LAN or over the Internet, so long as the routing and security is setup correctly or course.
Cheers,
Greg Keogh
