        kserver is for Kerberos Version 4, I'm using Kerberos version 5.
According to the docs, Kerberos Version 5 uses GSSAPI, which is gserver.
The Kerberos authentication is working just fine.  After I run cvs and get the
error described below, I do a "klist" and see that I have been granted a
new cvs/my.server.net ticket.......
