You can use the modules file to limit your checkouts to particular
directories, even when these directories are well below the "top" of your
project tree.  I would guess that this is your best bet.  It does involve
organizing your tree in such a way that a sub-directory checkout is
meaningful, so if you'd need to reorganize and don't want to , I'm not sure
what to tell you.  I think you may be able to define a module definition to
check out only particular files in a directory, but if so, it is undocumented
which means possibly unreliable.  Look up the "modules" administration file in
the Cederqvist.
