Although my address for incoming email is [EMAIL PROTECTED], my
outgoing isp was first through worldspy.net, my current is through
freewwweb.com. Both of these block all access to SMTP ports other than
their own (however, NEITHER of them faked DNS MX queries, so my unix
mail system that follows the SMTP protocol correctly dies). As such, I
have to send through their mail relayer; and that (both of them) are
listed in the blocking files.

Well, that's the problem.
I do use my ISP's outgoing mail relay. I don't like it. I have no
choice.
In the past, I've had ISP's that didn't block SMTP ports, and I could
use software that did an MX lookup, contact that port, and deliver
correctly; I never had trouble with it once I had it configured
correctly.
But sending mail through my dial-up connection hasn't been the problem
in the past.

Well, they do now. I can talk to freewwweb's outgoing email server,
only.

I'm following freewwweb's instructions, and this is what happens. I'll
look at that link next time I'm on line.
