I don't think there's a limit per se, but there may be bugs in the code
that are more likely to cause problems when the revision numbers are
very long.

I'm afraid the RCS file has been damaged and will have to be restored
from a backup.
If you can send me the restored RCS file and the exact rtag command you
used that caused the problem, I'll try to track it down and fix it.
