Note that the repository has moved to cvshome.com -- you should change
your CVSROOT to :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home2/cvsroot. The
modules file is not corrupted, it's empty (save for a comment) -- you
*can* checkout CVSROOT (or CVSROOT/modules) if you want to see for
yourself. I have no idea what version of CVS OpenAvenue is running for
the server, but it seems to be an old one and it seems to have some kind
of bug in this area.

It seems to be terminally confused by the (nearly) empty modules file.
As a workaround, you can checkout ./ccvs.

No. At one time I had experimented with adding a version command to the
client/server protocol, perhaps I'll resurrect that work.
