FWIW, I've also use rsync to keep "mirrors" up to date. See

for more info. (However, I didn't know about CVSup, so it may have benefits
for CVS replication due to its increased domain knowledge.)
The advantage of rsync is that it is a more general purpose tool, incase
you need to keep other files mirrored between the machines. It also can
handle the authentication issues quite well. (I used rsync over ssh for one
operation I did.)
