You don't state which environment this will happen in.  But I
take it your server / workstation will be the SunOS machine you
work at.  So what you need to know is "man 1 cp tar cpio pax". :)

"cvs init" and populating the initialized repo with the existing
,v files will give you a CVS repo with all the history summed up
so far.
