It's unnecessary to measure this, because it has nothing to do with the
real world. Yes, if I were a perfect programmer/designer, then I'd never
have to (or, if you prefer, want to) rename files. Of course, if I were
perfect, I wouldn't need/want CVS either; I'd just write the code and
tar.gz the result, knowing that it was perfect and unchanging.

I'm sure he has no obvious need for CVS, as I am sure he has no
