Hi

I brought up that issue three years ago and Robert Pluim pointed out to
me that and I quote.
Sorry if this should be asked on another list, but as of today a lot of
public institutions run GMAIL behind the curtains and accessing email
with emacs is an important feature

| Your *Google* account has a password, which is what you use to connect
| to eg gmail.com using a browser. You can also create one or more
| separate 'app password' on Google, which you then use for a specific
| connection to Google, eg SMTP. See

Now it so happens that google turned off the «usual user password
access», however while I can generate a app password for my private
gmail account, it seems not possible for my university account and
indeed gmail writes.

can’t find the option to add an app password, it might be because:

- Your Google Account has 2-Step Verification set up only for security keys.
- You’re logged into a work, school, or another organization account.
- Your Google Account has Advanced Protection.

So it is my understanding, that I can't use the app password method for
that account and I need to use oauth2?

There is a package for emacs I think, anybody has got that to work?
