Hello,

I was able to resolve the issue without resorting to OAuth2. Evidently
(or at leas in my university), the same rule applies to academic Gmail
accounts: the use of an app password is possible, provided that
two-factor authentication is enabled. Accordingly, I activated it, and
was then able to generate an app password. That said, the process was
far from obvious.
