First, I WOULD LIKE YOU TO RESPOND TO THIS NOTE by sending me a personal reply (to [EMAIL PROTECTED]). At a minimum I would like you to respond with your First and Last name, and your e-mail address. This will allow me to ensure that we have in fact been reaching you (as a subscriber to SPIE's list for its High-Speed Photo Working Group) and that you are aware of the new "Forum" which will allow us to communicate more immediately with each other. If you can find the time to do it, I would also like you to provide just a few words that describe your specific interests ... if not prose, then a few bullets. This will allow me to assess the common interests of the group. I am hoping that this material will provide a starting point for a discussion on the new "Forum". Second, for those who may have missed the announcement, SPIE has created a new way for us to communicate in an interactive fashion. You can learn more about the SPIE "Forums" by pointing your browser to ... http://spie.org/app/forums The High-Speed Photography, Videography and Photonics forum is one of the first to be implemented. My thanks to Rich Donnelly, June Thompson and their colleagues at SPIE for making these forums available. Each user will need to establish an on-line "identity" by creating a log-in name and password, but beyond that anyone can contribute to the discussion. Although it has yet to be tested by the group, this appears to be a far superior means of communication. I encourage everyone to join the "High-Speed" forum and begin participating in an active discussion on how to improve the Working Group. It is my intent to get this discussion underway this week. Third, we are still soliciting papers for EI 2001. Although the deadline for abstracts has passed, we need additional material to run a successful oral session. PLEASE consider submitting an abstract. I realize that the International Congress in Japan may have caused some difficulties in this regard, but if we are to remain a viable technical group, YOU (the members) must participate. Without your input, there is not much point in keeping the group alive. If you have material to present, please let me know IMMEDIATELY.
