Title: Re: Iowa ACEM questions...
Good morning-

There was discussion yesterday about not getting the right to use OS 9 on a Mac if you bought the newest version of OS X version 10.2.  Below is what I found out from a couple of different Apple people.  With the 10.2 "Jaguar" purchase, you do still receive downgrade rights.  But, you must have the media as 10.2 does NOT ship with OS 9 on a separate CD as it has in the past.

    Have a great day!!!

Jeremy,

The Apple person is correct.  You buy Jaguar (v10.2) and you also get back wards licensing rights, including OS 9.x.  While we would like you to stay with OS X, you can downgrade to 9.

Paul-

Sorry to bother you again.  Just had a meeting with all of our local tech coordinators, and one said he had heard that when you purchase "Jaguar," you do not get the rights to install an older version of OS (ex. 9.x or 8.6) on the machine you purchased that upgrade for.  I just talked to a gentleman at Apple and he said that was not the case.   He claimed "Jaguar" does not come with a separate install CD for OS 9.2.2, but you still have the rights to downgrade to any OS you purchase that upgrade for.

Our situation is that we have original iMacs running system 8.1, and we are running a program in which the newest version requires system 8.6 or higher.  We have all of the install CD's we need, we are just looking to be legal and legit.  What is your take on this, and is there something in writing somewhere we can keep on file here, and I can share with my fellow tech coordinators to explain our option or rights?

Again, any help would be appreciated.  Have a great evening!!!

Jeremy

Jeremy,

Yes,  there is new pricing.  I know that Jerry has been pre-occupied with his father’s recent passing a few weeks back.

Attached is the current Apple Software Price List.

Cheers!

Getting ready to purchase some OS upgrades, and had a quick question.  With Jaguar being out, is there a new SKU for the OS finished goods?  Here is what the web site currently lists:

M8545LL/B    Mac OS X 10.1.3 Finish Good*    Iowa Price  $59

M8550LL/B    Mac OS X 10.1.3 Install CD        Iowa Price $15
                                * Mac OS X Finished Good includes Mac OS 9.2

I want to make sure I get the most recent upgrade, so any help would be appreciated.  Let me know if there are new sku's and prices for the newest OS upgrades.

  Thanks for your time!!!

Jeremy
