Jon,
I've been using StarOffice on my own machine for over a year. Only
problem is that I sometimes forget to save in Microsoft format and someone
responds that they can't open the document. StarOffice 6 is a lot better
than 5.2 For general usage, I can see no reason not to use it. If more
people try it out, maybe we'll all get a better read on making the change.
I haven't used OpenOffice but have used the Software602 and like it because
it will open and save directly in Microsoft format and I don't get people
sending me messages saying that they can't open it. Maybe all of the techs
need to get together and spend a day trying the different flavors. In 3
weeks, I'll have a lab of 12 computers that we could use to try out any of
the "free" Office knockoffs. There may be some out there that we haven't
heard of yet. In fact, to get the ball rolling, because we're kind of in
the center of the new AEA, meet here on Thursday, March 13 at 9:30 AM. Not
written in stone but at least a starting point. I think it would be well
worth the day investment in time.
