We have decided that email is a great time waster for students. They spend time sending jokes or attachments to each other one or two computers away. If a student needs email for something, then email is assigned, otherwise they have no email. We also block yahoo, msn, hotmail, etc. with Sonicwall. I have another program that can monitor net usage and when students were sending email, 70 to 80% of Internet usage was email – most of which was jokes, etc.

Subject: [info-tech] Questions of student email

Our school district is trying to decide which way is the best way to go as far as email for students.  I have heard that some schools have no email at all for the students.  How does this work.  We have talked about email for 8-12 graders, and no hotmail, etc.  My high school students would rather have hotmail, etc instead of the school email.

Give me some input as to what your school district does.

Thanks
