Jackie-

Currently, we do not allow non-district equipment to connect to
the wired or wireless network, or other district equipment. This
includes laptops, printers, desktops and PDAs for both students and
staff. We have made some exceptions in the past for people coming in to
provide training, but not many times. The only other event I can
remember is AEA Tech Cord Meetings, but we can "trust" them right?

We do allow students to bring in flash drives and use those on
our systems, but haven't had students bring in PDA's or laptops. Guess
you are luck up there!!!

Subject: [info-tech] student access to the network

Greetings, all! Here is my question for the week:
I am beginning to have the scenario of students bring in their
wireless PDA's and laptops to school. They would like to be able to
connect to the network to be able to print, etc. from their devices.
As I look down the road, I can envision many beginning to want to do/
have the capability to do the same thing. Do any of you have
policies regarding this? Do you/would you start configuring their
devices to connect? I see the advantages, but am also envisioning
the can of worms that could be opened. Thoughts/suggestions/
comments? Thanks, and have a great day!
-Jackie
