I attended one of the "forums" they held regarding this. My
intuition on this was there were several certification problems
before Fall BEDS/EASIER was due with some vendors. Part of this
possibly due to the fact that we have so many different vendors that
the market isn't big enough for Iowa to have a lot of pull on changes
getting made right away. The general consensus at the one I attended
(and there were several) was that it is impossible to have accurate/
streamlined data collecting when there are so many different ways of
doing it/systems that are being managed. The scenario was made by
one attendee: imagine running a different SIS in each building in
your district. Thus, the overall thought at the one I was at was we
do need fewer--one would be ideal in a perfect world--but it also
needed to look at a curriculum piece with it. Obviously the major
factors that came in that report also were discussed: how do you
choose who stays, cost, maintenance, upgrade, etc.
We use our JMC for everything as well . . . I attended a Powerschool
demo last year just to see what else is out there . . . but I, too,
am not going to move fast on anything until the state comes out with
the direction it's going.
Have a safe weekend!
:-)
