Layne,
The projectors at the H.S. are wireless. They function for slide shows as long as the teachers do not do any fancy transitions. The only way I have got it to work even remotely well for video is for them to run it in windowed mode and then use the projector's zoom function to zoom in on the window. That actually works pretty well for most classroom, educational videos, although it is quite inconvenient for the teachers to have to zoom in on the window. Otherwise, they drop a cable down from the projector to the laptop on a cart, desk, or table. As for carts to put them on, we have not gotten our budget for next year, so I am not sure how many additional projectors will be purchased. Once I know some numbers I will start the search. Right now the projectors on carts are on the big A/V carts. I would like to find something much smaller with just enough room for the projector and the laptop. Do you have a solution for this? Stuff I've tried is really clunky. We mounted projectors for each H.S. and M.S. teacher, and for the teachers that use them all the time from the same spot shooting at the same whiteboard, that is great. Once mounted, the mobility is obviously very limited. So, for the teachers that NEVER use their projectors they are now stuck to the ceiling. I know I could go get them down and move them somewhere else, but... Also, now every teacher K-12 will have a laptop in the next few days, and if you mount the projector and run a VGA cable somewhere in the room to connect to it, then that is where they have to connect to the projector. It limits the mobility of the laptop. So, because we are going away from desktops, I think we are going to move to a cart solution. So the teachers will have the cart with the projector in their room and connect to it with their laptops when needed. This solution also allows for sharing of equipment. I hate to see expensive equipment just hanging from the ceiling gathering dust. I see advantages both ways, but for us in many situations the non-mounted solution makes more sense. It's one of the biggies on my list of needs for next year. I'd be interested if there are reasons not to. It seems necessary in today's classrooms. Sarah Sarah M.
