I have noticed something similar long ago: Outlok was storing a
message, but somewhere in the body of the message it started sending
NULL characters - huge amount of them. At the end the message was
refused by cyrus because it "contains NULL", so we did not hit any
disk limits. But the users were complaining that their outlook is
constantly syncing, and never finished. (Or that the sync takes
extremely long to finish). Checking /var/lib/cyrus/log/user/ revealed
the NULLs are in the same messages over and over. Usually they are
"sent" or "drafts". The only fix was to delete them from outlook. We
did not find any way how to sync these messages to Cyrus.
- cyrus 3.6.1 (and maybe even some older version) - without murder
- outlook - also could be various versions, I do not remember which
Probably not be related, but we also see issues with case-sensitivity.
Mostly with folder names when the folder name is re-cased by a pedantic
user, but Outlook continues to try and use the old cased name and
refuses to accept the new name, so you get two sync errors, one "up" and
one "down". When we looked in to it, it appears that the IMAP standards
never defined if folder names were case sensitive or not, so Outlook
says no and Cyrus say yes.
And have also seen messages causing issues in Draft but mostly they were
emails that had failed to be removed when the final version was sent.

Marco
