I don't think that is too uncommon. I've encountered other downloads that suggest or require that any anti-virus program be diasabled before the operation can be completed. These have been with legitimate software programs, not some possibly questionable ones. I believe running disk defragmentation on a harddrive requires that anti-virus be switched off as well. You are right though, it would be really nice if the software companies would advise you before you get involved in a long download that a-v should be shut off.
