Joe, this sounds like the CD from hell....have you tried loading the
unit through the "add new hardware" option of Control Panel? Remove all
refs to the unit and remove all from the autoexec.bat and config.sys.

Another thing to try is the website of the manufacturer for specialty
drivers. You're right, this is a wierd one.

One last drastic suggestion: remove all your peripherals through the
system folder in control panel and then reboot - have the win98 cd
handy. Perhaps some other "fixture" is occupying the interrupt etc.
where the CD unit is trying to load itself. That type of conflict will
disallow it from being visible. Is your CMOS set to plugnplay? Is the
unit set as "slave" or "second master?". Things to try.....S
