I switched the Windows Scripting Host to "prompt" mode on my Internet
Explorer software after dealing with Jay's mailing list message sent to all
of us. Upon testing IE after that, I discovered that every website I access,
including secure ones where I perform personal financial or purchasing
activities, continually prompted me to accept a script. It became such a
hassle to continually click on the "OK" button to continue that I switched
WSH back to normal mode. I understand Jay's reasoning for informing all of
us about it, but, it is too much of a hassle to deal with in my estimation.
I only use IE when I need to access a few websites or pages that do not
perform well with the Opera v4.02 that I usually use. Those websites/pages
are verified and established entities or businesses that I interact with or
purchase from. So, I am not as concerned about the possible application of
an evil script by some malcontent on a random website.
I have no answer as to why you encountered extra problems with the script
that Jay sent all of us. I use Win98 and Outlook Express for email and was
able to easily click through the script test. I hope to find a suitable
alternative to OE but haven't liked any email software programs that I've
tried yet.
