If it's an IBM, then you may be able to upgrade the CPU. I have an old 486 IBM
Thinkpad and they have all sorts of upgrades for this dinosaur, but they're expensive!

If it's another brand and it has a real mobile processor (processor built for a
laptop) then check to see what options the manufacturer offered for your specific
model.

On the other hand, if it's one of those cheap O's then it probably doesn't even have a
mobile processor, it may have a processor just like a desktop PC.

Most laptops are proprietary.

If it's an old one and given the price for parts, it would probably be easier to buy
new; you don't have to get the top of the line.

A battery for my IBM is $200 and a new one only last about 2 hours or less when using
the 14.4 modem. The more modern laptops are much more powerful and last 4-6 hours or
more.

Many used laptops for sell at Computer Renaissance from $289-$800. Some are good some
are not so good.
