May also want to check or toggle the printer port settings. Options usually include
bi-directional, epp, ecp, etc in the bios setup.

Also try to set the dpi to 300 and try that first. A common problem with home built
pc's are to leave all the bios port settings at their defaults.
and yes, many printer cables go bad, or are the wrong type and poor quality. The
722cse may be software driven, but if you have already tried another model then that
may not be the problem. I've had bad experiences with cheap Windows only printers.
