Thanks for your comments. I am not certain what actually happened here. The day after I detected what I thought was a virus, I received two more warnings that I had been infected. The viruses warning was on the screen and each one had a different extension .. ie a, b, c etc. As if they were in alphabetical order.

I deleted InoculateIT thinking it was deleting good files. It was late, I was tired. I could not delete all of InoculateIT and then I began getting alerts at bootup that the computer could not find specific virus.dat files. Sure, because I had deleted them! Duh! Dumb me.

I then went into the registry and deleted what I assumed was all traces of InoculateIT. I must have really screwed up because after that I no longer could get a clean copy of my registry.

Actually it did me a favor. My registry was heavy with 2 1/2 years of hardware changes, updates and so on. Because my life is complicated I am giving it to the fellow who installed the network. I now believe I was in error in assuming it was his software. He uses it often during the day at his job so I doubt it was infected.

If I had a worm does it come as an attachment? I received no attachments so I cannot figure out where I got it from. I don't think I really know how a worm acts aside from emailing everyone in my address book and that did not happen.

I will use my husbands computer and let our friend format for me. My mom is ill and I care for her and life is complicated to take the time to do it myself.

Any comments will be appreciated. I need to learn from this.
