AOL's broadband customers in South must find new carrier by January http://www.wavy.com/global/story.asp?s=2555314&ClientType=Printable
DULLES, Va. America Online is telling existing broadband subscribers in nine Southern states that they must find a new broadband carrier by January 17th. Customers who do not switch to a new broadband carrier by that date will have their accounts revert to A-O-L's traditional dialup service. Virginia is NOT among the states affected ... but company spokeswoman Anne Bentley says she expects A-O-L to phase out existing broadband customers in the rest of the country over the next year. The Dulles-based company earlier this year stopped signing up new broadband customers. The vast majority of A-O-L's 23 (M) million subscribers receive standard dialup service for 24 dollars a month. The company will not disclose how many customers still receive the 54-dollar monthly broadband service. Copyright 2004 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
