Just out of curiosity, whatever happened to POCP - Plain Old Cell Phones? You know, a phone that was decent at placing/receiving phone calls. I don't need ringtones, ringback tones, ringforward tones, cameras, games, MP3 players, GPS, E911, and DRM on what still (to me, and I wager many) serves as a personal communications device that extends our use of the TELEPHONE to where-ever we are in the world.
We need fewer features and more reliability, both in cellphones and the services they run on. Just a thought for the day. -rick Infowarrior.org Verizon Offers Custom Ringback Tones http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/cellphones/index.php#verizon-offers-custom-ri ngback-tones-025901 Just noticed a little while ago that Verizon is now offering custom musical ringbacks in test markets in California. In case you haven't heard, ringbacks are what callers hear when they call you. Like a ringtone, but for the caller. I've been waiting for this for a while, thinking it'd be cool to have callers hear my own songs (If You Don't Leave a Mesasge, I Will Eat Your Children comes particularly to mind), but alas you can only license existing songs from a list of some 2,200 choices, including selections from the BMG and Warner catalogs. To use the custom ringback service costs customers an additional $1 per month, and each song is $2 per year. A broader range of tunes will be available in the future, and the ringback service is supposed to be available for all Verizon customers by the middle of next year.
