In today's rapidly changing media landscape, it is becoming harder to tell truth from fiction. Increasingly, sloppy journalism is treated as legitimate news, opinions are presented as facts, and misinformation spreads throughout our news media, threatening the foundation of democracy.
A non-profit venture headed by Fabrice Florin is now working on a practical solution to those issues. Called NewsTrust, our proposed citizen news rating service aims to bring together experienced journalists and volunteer reviewers to rate news stories and their sources according to rigorous editorial standards - leveraging online technology to identify high-quality journalism, or "news you can trust." The goal of this non-partisan project is to help citizens find the information they need to effectively participate in democracy; we also plan to provide constructive feedback to journalists and a moderated conversation space to discuss their work with the public. Our recent market study shows strong interest in this service across party lines, with 84% of respondents interested or very interested, 59% willing to pay $10/year or more, and 29% prepared to volunteer (out of 15,438 respondents). Given this encouraging response, we're looking to extend this investigation to most effectively bring this service to the public. < snip > http://www.newstrust.net/ You are a subscribed member of the infowarrior list.
