My mail db is in SQL, and what I did was created a simple access program
that just runs a bunch of different queries that sums up various usage
statistics.

I take the queries, tossed em into a graph object and I get some ideas on
usage - per domain, by day, which tells me things like - number of messages
sent, received, deleted, saved, etc... And since I'm querying the db
directly, I'm getting real-time information.

I could give you the app, but it probably won't help much - I'm using a
"majorily" modified db for the server.
