The statistics were intentionally designed so that the results are stored in
memory and then written to standard INI files. The main reasons are
simplicity and openness. The storing of the statistics in INI files is fast
and simple. Storage to a database causes overhead and possible problems.
The format for INI files is simple and open (which is why the POST Server
uses INI files for control files).
So, all you really need is a program to read in the INI files and create
statistics.
One thing that was kicked around was possibly putting real-time stats
processing into a file that something like WebTrends could understand.
Then, you could get realtime stats and have them stored in a db and have
canned reports as well.
