Open sourcing didn't flop (it's always been open source). What "flopped"
was having FusionMail developed as a community project. There weren't
enough (read zero) users willing to spend time upgrading the code. So, that
has a twofold affect - the software development is slow (given that we
devote most development time on iMS and not FusionMail) and the code is not
as good as it could be (it's not bad but not the best).

There are not different code bases. What happened was that we mistakenly
used two SQL reserved words in some column names. This has been fixed. The
new fields are HASREAD (replaces READ) and TIMESTMP (replaces TIMESTAMP).

I don't think I can safely assume that. The best solution would be to store
the text of the mail in the database and also store the original message in
a text file. This provides the ability to do searches on mail content but
also would not bloat the DB sith attachments and the like.
