Since iMS 1.0 was released in September of 1999 we have provided free
upgrades to all iMS purchasers. We've added all the features that were
requested (and even some enhancements that weren't, like a scheduler and
bandwidth throttling). The iMS product has evolved considerably since the
first release over 1 1/2 years ago and any client who has purchased the
product in the past is eligible for an upgrade to 2.0 at no additional cost.
The next release, iMS 2.0, includes several additional features and
performance improvements. It is a significant upgrade from the 1.x product.
However, free upgrades from version 2.0 will include only bug fixes if any
are found in the version 2.0 product. Any future releases will be provided
to clients with annual subscription plans. Note: first-time purchasers will
receive a one-month subscription automatically as insurance against an
upgrade that occurs shortly after purchase.
The decision to utilize subscriptions (and it was not an easy one) was based
on the fact that research and development is required when features are
added to the product. Up until now, we have not charged a fee for the R&D
but feel that it is necessary to do so in order to provide the best product
possible.
