During those 200 test msgs form iMS to the outbound gateway, Steven said he
had 130+ errors like this:

>(172.16.2.49)

The ip is important because thats not the ip of the gateway but a Stevens
load balancing box, a RAD Linkproof, I think. The traffic doesnt pass
through the box. The resolver in the iMS box queries DNS for an A record,
and the Linkproof box, delegated with authority for that child zone,
returns a different ip based on its estimate of which of the two outbound
gateways is less busy. I have no idea how the RAD box polls the 2 gateways
to determine busy-ness.

Does the 172.16.2.49 mean iMSs tcp stack saw that error when talking to
that ip?

If so, then thats a 2nd pb in this setup, where the first one is the
extreme slowness of the SMTP sessions between the iMS and gateway boxes.
