If you're using IMS with ColdFusion, you should definitely switch to the
CFX tag.

Because cfx_imsmail places mail files directly into the IMS queue -- and
does not use cfmail, ColdFusion mail settings do not affect IMS.

Additionally, if you're using cfx_imsmail you should not need to apply
patches to cfmail, as you're relying on IMS's POST service to send the
mail -- not ColdFusion SMTP.

If you haven't already, I suggest looking thoroughly at the IMS manual.
It answers all these questions, and many more as well!

If i do decide to switch from cfmail to cfx_imsmail, is there anything i
need to change/set in mail server configuration?

Thanks.
