As I've mentioned here before I need to log incoming email address to a SQL
db and send out automatic responses. The problem is that the incoming mail
currently goes to another pop server. I have 2 options:
1) Use CF-POP or CF-pop3 to download the email headers every 15 mins, log
into our SQL DB and send out the responses
OR
2) Arrange for the incoming mail to come directly to the iMS server (it
would be approximately 5000 emails per day)
The question is what will be more taxing on my box, option 1 or 2 ? If I
select option 2 I will need to use my web server as a pop serve, option 1 I
just use CF-POP3 to get the emails headers every 15 mins.
some other considerations:
- using the web server as the pop sever means I have to open the port 110
on my pop server :-(
- using iMS as the pop server would make it easier to process bounce backs
and probably has other advantages.
What would you all suggest?
Thanks.
