I'm not really sure about this but a mail server should not be changing the domain of
the recipient no matter what. It's very common for a mail server to host multiple
domains (our server hosts between 50 and 100). It would be a very big problem if a
mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] went to [EMAIL PROTECTED] instead.
I'm sorry that I can't offer anything beyond this but I really don't know why a mail
server would exhibit this behavior.
Regards,
Howie

Subject: Re: [iMS] Why certain mail servers fail to deliver?
This question probably takes this issue outside the gist of this list, but if you
would indulge me with one more question, I'll leave it at that (since you guys know a
lot more about mail than I do). This problem may be related to mail servers that do a
reverse lookup. Failed mail sent from my Novell server came back like this:
The original message was received at Thu, 12 Jun 2003 11:46:54 -0400 (EDT)
from [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have been told by my firewall administrator (also handles the mail machine) that the
mail server from which this was sent does a reverse lookup before delivering the mail.
Here is the DNS record for racktivity.com:
Non-authoritative answer:
racktivity.com canonical name = onebigsite.com.
onebigsite.com mail exchanger = 10 mail.onebigsite.com.
Authoritative answers can be found from:
onebigsite.com nameserver = ns4.everydns.net.
onebigsite.com nameserver = ns1.everydns.net.
onebigsite.com nameserver = ns2.everydns.net.
onebigsite.com nameserver = ns3.everydns.net.
mail.onebigsite.com internet address = 216.137.159.94
ns1.everydns.net internet address = 209.75.39.141
ns2.everydns.net internet address = 216.218.240.206
ns3.everydns.net internet address = 81.17.40.70
ns4.everydns.net internet address = 63.219.183.200
Is it possible that using a CNAME record for racktivity.com is causing this problem?
Should I plug the IP address in as an A record for racktivity..com even though using a
CNAME record is the appropriate method?
